Obituary of Margo Ellen Long- Poitras
With heavy hearts the family of Margo Ellen Long- Poitras announces her passing on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at Bobby’s Hospice. Margo was born on August 18, 1957 in Saint John, NB to the late Elbert and Marjorie (Smith) Long. Margo worked at the Assessment Office for the Province of NB as an administrator for 16 years before going on long term disability. She then began helping her husband Steve with his business, which she enjoyed. Margo was a caring, kind, and full of life. She loved giving back to her community. Margo was a proud member of the Norton Seniors group; helping in the kitchen and the Norton Women’s Institute. Her faith was also very important to her, she carried her Christian beliefs throughout her life. Margo also loved to craft, make saddles for the cemetery, sew, and go for drives with her dog Toby. She enjoyed travelling and going on cruises especially to the Caribbean with her friend Debbie. Margo and Steve had many fond memories together over years however, some of the best were when they went for drives and out for dinner. Margo is survived by her husband Steven Poitras, brothers; Gerald Long (Val Hayes), Stephen Long (Yvette), John Long (Norine) and Elbert Long (Evelyn), sisters; Susan Woodly (Russ), Judy Russell (Ed) and Lynn Cripps, Aunt Audrey Long, many nieces and nephews, and pup Toby. Margo is predeceased by her parents. Brothers; Ron Long, George Long and Murray Long, sisters; Betty Long, Dorothy Roberts, and Sylvia Chow. Resting at Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John, NB E2M 2L3 506-634-1701. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 14th from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. A Private Mass of Christian Burial will be held from Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 129 Route 124, Norton, NB. *Please be advised due to Covid-19 restrictions the Mass is invitation only.* Interment will take place in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers donations in Margo’s memory can be made to Sacred Heart Cemetery, SPCA, Cancer Society or the charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences can be made at www.castlefh.com.
