Obituary of Joanne Johnson
It is with great sadness, the family of Joanne Johnson would like to announce her passing on Friday, May 19, 2017 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Joanne was born on November 27, 1934 in Douglas, NB to the late Fredrick and Pauline (Alexander) McAdam. Joanne grew up on a farm in Douglas NB, where she attended Fredericton High School and graduated at the top of her class. She was awarded a scholarship to Mount Allison University and was recognized for her academic excellence by an invitation to participate in the Weston British Tours for Canadian Girls, where she toured the United Kingdom and met Queen Elizabeth. While attending Mount Allison she met her loving husband of 52 years, Leonard Earl Johnson. Before Joanne was married she worked for the Red Cross. After Earl and Joanne were married they had two lovely children. She then began working at Hayward and Warwick as a retail manager where she eventually retired. Joanne enjoyed being involved in the community; volunteering, attending church, going to yard sales, Red Hatters and entertaining her friends and family. Joanne will be dearly missed by her son; Scott Johnson (Lori Stickles) of Uxbridge Ontario, daughter; Karen Stone (Danny Stone) of Saint John, grandchildren; Amy Johnson, Kayla Stone, Devin Stone, Maggie Johnson, and 9 nieces and nephews. Joanne was predeceased by her husband, parents, and brother. Arrangements are under the care of Castle funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, NB. (634-1701). Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 23rd, from 6PM- 8PM. A Memorial Service will be held in the Castle “Fallsview” Chapel on Wednesday, May 24th at 2PM. Interment will take place following the service at Greenwood Cemetery. Donations in Joanne’s memory of can be made to the Canadian Alzheimer’s Foundation.
