Obituary of Gordon Reid Boyd
Gordon Reid Boyd passed away May 1, 2017 at the SJRH following a longtime illness. He was born December 7, 1931 in Windsor, N.S, son of Burton and Grace Boyd. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years Eileen (Cameron) Boyd, sons Gary (Joni) Boyd, Ottawa, Tim (Thelma) Boyd, Halifax, daughter Brenda (late Wendell) Cook, Miramichi; grandchildren Samantha, Pamela, Troy, Jeffery, Bonnie, Tyson, Alexander and William; great grandchildren Evan, Amber, Jack, Hudson, and Ellie; brothers Eric (Mattie), Blair (Karen), sisters Lillian, Margie (Lou); mother of his children Josephine Boyd. Predeceased by his parents, brother Harold, sisters Amy, Christina and Patsy. Following his discharge from the RCAF his work brought him to Saint John where he was later employed by Irving Pulp and Paper, SJRH, owned a business, then became a registered investment advisor. In his youth he excelled in many sports, baseball, softball, hockey and football. Gordon formerly served as president of the NB Nursing Home Assn. (honorary life member), Secretary – Treasurer of the Canadian Long Term Care Assn., the executive of the Canadian Long Term Care Foundation, the Advisory Board of the NB Registered Nursing Assistants, the board of Civic Hydro, and an executive member of Branch #14 RCL. He was a member of Branch #69 RCL, the #250 Wing RCAF, and a member of the Lancaster Golden Service Club. He was an active member of Carleton-Kirk United Church. Through the Greater Saint John Community Foundation he established a Carleton- Kirk Lodge Fund to enable people to contribute to the ongoing care of the Lodge. Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, N.B. (634- 1701). Visitation will be Wednesday, May 10, 2017 from 1:30pm – 3:00 pm at the Carleton- Kirk United Church. A Legion Tribute Service and the funeral service will take place at 3:00 pm in the church. Reception to follow. Donations to the Carleton- Kirk United Church, Carleton- Kirk Lodge or the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
