Obituary of Eric George Chapman
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our father Eric George, on Oct. 27, 2017 at home with his family around him. Dad was born in Albertons, Yorkshire/England on February 28, 1928 to Frank and Annie Chapman. At the young age of 18 months, he with his family boarded the Duchess of Richmond to embark on a new adventure of farming life, to live in Wickham, New Brunswick. They lived there for a number of years then moved to Saint John West, Guilford Street. They spent many years on the West side and had many great friends there. Dad met our mother, the late Florence Pearl (Burnett), on the West side and it was a true love story. They married on February 4, 1946. Together they raised 9 wonderful children. They moved to Grand Bay/Westfield in 1950 and then moved to Martinon in 1967. Dad is survived by his sons; Wayne (Dianne), Richard (Bernice), Michael (Mary Ann), Timothy (Pauline), Kevin (Dianne), daughters; Debra (Robert), Brenda, and Kathy (whom have been there for their parents fulltime for the last 8 years living with them); 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. Dad also has a wonderful daughter in law, Linda Chapman; sister in laws, Mildred (Teddy) Chapman and Dorothy Burnett; also many nieces and nephews. Dad was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Predeceased by his parents and 9 siblings, the love of his life, Florence in 2013 and his eldest son, George Eric in 2007. Dad worked at just about anything to provide for his family. He worked Longshore for many years and then with C.P. Railway, where he retired from in 1986. His work habits continued in the years of always toiling in the gardens and around his camp and yard. Resting at Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave, Saint John (634-1701), visitation will be held on Wednesday Nov. 1, 2017 from 4-8 p.m. A service of Christian burial will take place from Castle Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017 at 1 p.m. Interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family welcome donations in Eric’s memory to; Bobby’s Hospice, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Kidney Foundation, and Church of the Resurrection.
