Obituary of Russell Eugene Floyd
It is with heavy hearts and gratitude for a life well lived that the family of Russell Eugene Floyd wishes to announce his passing at the Saint John Regional Hospital on September 23, 2020. Born in Apohaqui, NB on January 2, 1934, he was a son of the late Sterling and Pearl (Tait) Floyd. Russell was predeceased by exactly three years and a day by his dear wife, Connie. He will be lovingly missed and remembered by their nine children - sons Kim Floyd (Cathy) of Victoria Harbour, Ontario, Steven Floyd (Mary) of Grand Bay-Westfield, Harold Floyd of Norton, Michael Floyd (Helen) of Saint John, Dale Floyd (Carla) of Cornwall, Ontario, and daughters Brenda Walker of Saint John, Candace Floyd (Brian) of Saint John, Tracey Guiry (Justin) of Falmouth, NS, and Tanya Lawlor (George) of Norton. Grampy Floyd will be missed forever by 16 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is survived by sisters-in-law June Garfield of Saint John and Gail Fisher of Quispamsis. In addition to his parents and wife, Russell was predeceased by his brother Murray Floyd, sister Dorothy Hughes, sisters-in-law Betty Garfield, Faye Garnett, and Mary Floyd, and brothers-in-law Jack Garnett, William Garfield, Alfred Garfield, Donnie Garfield and Art Hughes, and daughter-in-law Kimberly (Harold Floyd). After starting out his driving career at age 16 with Hill Brothers in Hamilton, Ontario, he moved home to New Brunswick, and while working at Irving Oil in Saint John, met Connie Garfield. They married in 1955 and went about the happy business of producing a large family. Russell supported his family well as a long-haul truck driver at Hill Brothers, Irving Oil, Imperial Oil, Speedway Motor Express, Sanborn Motor Express, and as an Owner/Operator for Maritime Ontario. Then, along with Connie, they branched out on their own creating Ruscon Trucking, which operated successfully for 17 years. In the last number of years Russell escorted over-sized loads - Connie really loved riding shotgun on those trips. Worthy of mention is that over his entire trucking career, covering millions of miles, Russell was accident free. His driving accolades were numerous, but this in itself is an amazing accomplishment. A rock-solid work ethic emanated from Russell, and this permeated through to each of his children. There is no question that he was quietly proud of his children and their families. He was well pleased at the sheer number of children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in his family. Russell and Connie’s children would like to acknowledge the unwavering care that was administered to their parents by their sister, Tanya and her husband, George. Many, many hours of selfless dedication and commitment were extended to Mom and Dad, and it has not gone un-noticed. Thank you. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John, NB. A private family funeral service will take place at a later date and interment at River Bank Cemetery in Riverbank, NB.
