Obituary of Apollonia Day
It is with immense grief and broken hearts that the family of Apollonia (Lona) Day are announcing her physical passing on Tuesday, April 19th. 2022. Born in Teisnach, Germany, in 1928, Lona immigrated to Canada on a ship in 1929 with her late father Michael and mother Maria (Plötz) Reiner, sisters Mary, Angela (Ella), and with brother Michael on the way.
Lona was predeceased by her parents, her husband Thomas Alfred Day (1990), her daughter Janet Kathleen Day Petrilli (1995), and her sister Angela Frost (1996). Lona is survived by her daughter Heather Melanie Day -Thorburn (Kevin), her son-in-law Tony Petrilli, and grandson Adrian Thomas Petrilli.
Lona, who often appeared to be a private person, was fierce, brave, loyal, and faced adversity with dignity. She was an observer of life and people, quick with satirical and witty humour. She was interested in art, supporting Canadian artists, poetry, music, dancing, gardening, and Scottish culture. An animal lover and vegetarian, she always had room in her heart, and often her home, for one more cat.
As per Apollonia’s wishes cremation has taken place, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Other celebratory events will take place in the future.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local cat or animal rescue in Lona's honour.
