Obituary of Gordon William Baxter
Gordon “Gord” William Baxter, age 77 of Carleton Place, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2022 at the Queensway Carleton Hospital in Ottawa. Born in Saint John, New Brunswick, he was son of the late Kenneth and Audrey (Dykeman) Baxter and brother to the late Malcom Baxter. He was a 1962 graduate of Saint John High School and 1963 graduate of Saint John Vocational School in electronics. He was employed with Canadian Pacific in Saint John before transferring to Canadian Pacific Telecommunications in Montreal. He moved out of Quebec to Carleton Place with his family in 1981 to work for Goodwood Data Systems, later going into business for himself with Gandacar Consulting Ltd. until he retired.
Gordon is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dawn (née Hunter) Baxter in Carleton Place, Ontario, son Carl Baxter in Murrell’s Inlet, South Carolina, daughter Andrea (Shawn) Monette and grandchildren Erynn and Nathan Monette in Carleton Place, Ontario, sister Rosalie (Hugh) Brittain in Saint John, New Brunswick, sister-in-law Anne Angevine in Truro, Nova Scotia, mother-in-law Lillian (née Hunter) Atkins, brother-in-law Robert (Gen) Hunter, sister-in-law Barbara Hunter, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins in Saint John, New Brunswick.
Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John, NB 506-634-1701. No visitation will be held. A Memorial Service will be take place on Monday, May 30, 2022 at 12:30 PM in Castle Fallsview Chapel. Reverend Rob Nylen will officiate. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery.
Donations in Gordon’s memory may be made to the MS Society of Canada, St. John’s Church in Innisville, or the Lanark County Food Bank.
