Obituary of Celeste McGrath
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Sandra Celeste (Gallant) McGrath on Friday, May 27, 2022 at Bobby’s Hospice surrounded by her daughters. She was born on February 26, 1941 in Saint John, NB to the late Celestin and Agnes (McElwaine) Gallant.
Celeste is survived by her three daughters, Carolyn McGrath- Lockyer (Richard); their children, James and Evelyn, Elizabeth Anne McGrath, and Jennifer Lynne Moore (Peter); and their children, Melissa Jane, Andrew, Thomas, and John Simon, sister Dianne Hanlon, two brother in laws; Robert (Judy) McGrath, and David McGrath, and many nieces and nephews, and lifelong friends.
In addition to her parents Celeste is predeceased by her husband Paul, brother-in-law James Hanlon, and sister-in-law Patricia McGrath.
Celeste attended St. Peter’s Grade School and was a graduate of St. Vincent’s High School class of 1960. She was the office administrator for the Chief of the Psychiatry at the Saint John Regional Hospital for 25 years.
Celeste was a founding member of the Assumption Book Club which began in 1996. She was also actively involved with the RCIA at the Assumption Church and was a Friend of Hospice. Celeste loved spending time with her grandchildren, making memories with her family, and enjoyed the company of friends.
Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, (634 1701) have been entrusted with the arrangements. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 1st from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at 1:00 PM at Our Lady of Assumption Church. Cremation will take place following the Mass. Interment will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or Bobby’s Hospice would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences can be made at www.castlefh.ca
