Obituary of Donald Halsall
The family sadly announces the peaceful passing of Donald E Halsall, which occurred at Kennebec Manor Nursing Home on November 18th, 2016. Don was born in Saint John, NB on March 25, 1922; a son of the late Wilbur and Frances (Blatchford) Halsall, and the loving husband of the late Jean Elizabeth (Alexander) Halsall. Don had a 41 year career with NB Tel, working in various roles within the company from cable splicer to Director of Information Systems. After his retirement from NB Tel in 1984, he pursued many hobbies especially golf and his life-long hobby of bowling. Don loved a good project. He enjoyed his many power tools and he always made himself available for family to help with whatever needed to be done. Don loved to play cards and pool and to travel with the love of his life Jean. Don loved his family. He always looked forward to spending time with his family, whether it was helping them with something, imparting some of his wonderful knowledge or just being with them for any occasion to celebrate the sheer joy of life and everyday living. Don is survived by his children; daughters Wendy (Tom Hutton) Shephard of Saint John, Patti (Charlie) Smith of Quispamsis, grandchildren Andrew (Natalie) Shephard, Greg (Mindy Thibodeau) Shephard, Scott (Susan Holden) Shephard step-grandson Zachary (Nicole) Smith. Also survived by his sibling Wendell (Shirley) Halsall and Sister-in-law Doris Nice and great-grandchildren Ava, Sadie Sam and Lexi Shephard and Dawson Thibodeau. Don is also fondly remembered by several nieces, nephews, and many friends. Along with his parents Don was predeceased by his Brother Ken (Frances) Halsall, Marjorie (Gilles) Allan, Doreen (George) Hamilton, and his treasured wife Jean.Special thanks to Kennebec Manor for their wonderful care over the past 2 years.Resting at Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave, Saint John (634-1701), visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will be held from the Carleton Kirk United Church on Monday, November 21st at 2 p.m. with reception to follow. Interment will take place at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the Carleton Kirk United Church, Kennebec Manor Nursing Home, or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
