Obituary of Arthur Geary
GEARY, ARTHUR G After a long and fulfilling life, the death of Arthur G Geary occurred on April 22, 2012 at his residence in the Ridgewood Veteran’s Wing. Born on October 3, 1921 in Saint John, he was the son of the late George and Lillian (Feare) Geary. Art proudly served his country during WWII as a member of the RCAF #10 Bomber Squadron from 1939 – 1945. After the war, he worked in his father’s corner grocery store on the Lower West Side, where he met the love of his life, the late Norma Geary. He then moved on to the railroad, and Saint John Energy, retiring from there after more than 25 years of service. Art was extremely active in the Carleton-Kirk United Church, where he sang in the choir, and held numerous positions on boards and committees. He also sang with the Men of Fundy. Art volunteered his time as a coach in the Lancaster Little League, and for many years with the Westside Foodbank. Art will be deeply missed by his son Mark (Michelle) Geary; daughter-in-law Tina Geary; grandchildren Amanda Geary, Sean (Tricia) Geary and Jill Geary; great-grandchildren Mackenzie McGivery, Hailey Bertolini and Xander Geary; step-grandchildren Victoria Lockhart, and Robbie Girouard; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 58 years Norma, sons Keith and Dale, and his sister Phyllis. Resting at Castle Funeral Home, “Fallsview Chapel”, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John West (634-1701) visitation will be held Thursday, April 26 from 2-4PM and 7-9PM. The funeral service will be held at Carleton-Kirk United Church on Friday, April 27 at 11AM, with interment to follow at the Cedar Hill Ext. Cemetery, on Manawagonish Rd. In lieu of flowers, the family would encourage donations to the Alzheimer’s Society.
