Obituary of Esther Smith
Esther Smith of Serenity Cove Special Care Home (formerly of Greenhead Road) passed away peacefully at Bobby’s Hospice on July 7, 2013. Born in Lr. Saulnierville, Nova Scotia on August 12, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Frances (Surette) Saulnier and Isaie Saulnier, and the wife of the late William (Bud) Smith. Esther was employed by Revenue Canada for several years and worked as a school secretary at Denis Morris Memorial School. She was predeceased by her husband William (Bud); infant son Wayne; daughter Patricia; Brother Irené; sisters Freda, Antoinette, and Juliette. Esther’s survivors include her daughter Joyce Wilkes, son-in-law Peter Wilkes, grandchildren David and Robyn Wilkes (Scott Nason) and great granddaughter Abbey who was the apple of her eye. She also leaves behind several sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, and her special family at Serenity Cove. At Esther’s request there will be no formal visitation or funeral. A private graveside service will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations in memory of Esther may be made to Bobby’s Hospice (Hospice Saint John) or St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation (Women’s Breast Health).
