Obituary of Arthur Ingersoll

Arthur Ingersoll of Saint John, NB passed away peacefully at Chateau de Champlain on July 30, 2015. Art was born in Saint John on September 12, 1928, the son of the late Harold and Virginia (Williams) Ingersoll. He is survived by his daughter Marti (Robert) Trafton of Sussex; granddaughter Jane (Beau) Brasseale of Bowling Green, KY; grandson Scott (Brittany) Trafton of Sussex; great grandson John Beau Brasseale; sister-in-law Kay Ingersoll of Fredericton; brother-in-law Wayne Ingalls (Cheryl) of Moncton; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, Art was predeceased by his wife Lois, and his brother Rev. Ralph Ingersoll. Art graduated from Saint John High and UNB Fredericton, where he played hockey for the UNB Red Devils. He began his teaching career in Grand Manan, Woodstock and Fredericton, finally settling in Saint John where he coached hockey and taught physics at Saint John High for over 30 years. He was a faithful member of First Wesleyan Church in Saint John for many years, and upon moving to Sussex attended Sussex Wesleyan. Art will be remembered as a gifted musician and one of the founding members of the Gospelaires, a well-known Gospel singing group established in 1945 that traveled throughout the Maritimes and parts of the US. He married Lois “Posie” Ingalls on June 20, 1950 and enjoyed 62 years of sharing life together. Art will be remembered as a loving husband, a wonderful father and grandfather, uncle and a friend to many. Friends and family were always welcome in Art and Posie's home and cottage at Beulah Camp, Brown’s Flat, where they enjoyed spending their summers. Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave, Saint John, NB (506-634-1701). A Memorial Service will be held at the Beulah Camp Tabernacle (229 Beulah Road, Browns Flat, NB) on Tuesday, Aug. 4 at 3 pm. The family will receive friends following the service for a time of refreshments at the Beulah Camp Hotel. Donations in Art’s memory can be made to Kingswood University, Beulah Camp, Sussex Wesleyan Church or to the charity of one’s choice.
