Obituary of M. Freda MacKellar
Mrs. M. Freda MacKellar passed away peacefully with her family at her side November 12, 2013 at Ridgewood Veterans Wing. Born in Erb Settlement on June, 24 1925, daughter of the late Arthur and Helen (Watters) Reynolds. Freda was an avid horseracing fan, enjoyed bingo and crossword puzzles and loved to travel. She was a member of the Seniors Card Club at Legion Branch #69 and a long-time member of Carleton Kirk Church. Freda was a World War II Veteran with the RCAF, she worked at the original Sears (Candy Dept.) and in her earlier years worked at American News. Freda was the loving mother of three sons, David (Ruth) of Switzerland, Duncan and Alan both of Saint John; three daughters Christine of Ottawa, Heather (Larry) of Port Alberni BC and Cathy of Saint John; her loving brother Rick (Irma) Reynolds of Saint John, two sisters Eva (Francis) Stanley of Grand Manan and Mary Rankine of Hamilton Ont.; and granddaughter Laila MacKellar of Switzerland, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Duncan MacKellar Sr. and beloved sister Lily Reynolds in 1953. Resting at Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, NB, E2M 2L3. Visitation will take place on Thursday, November 14, 2013 from 6-8pm and Friday, November 15, 2013 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday November 16, 2013 from Castle “Fallsview” Chapel at 10:00am. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. A reception will be held after the interment at the Castle “Fallsview” Reception Center. Donations made to the I.W.K. Children’s Hospital, Alzheimer’s Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
