Obituary of Durell Jones
Jones, Durell Maxwell The death Mr. Durell M. Jones husband of Bertha E. (Green) Jones of Saint John West occurred on April 24, 2011 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Milltown, NB. on November 14, 1921, he was the son of the late Thomas W. and Margaret S. (Mayes) Jones. He served as a rifleman with the Queen’s Own Army in Holland and Germany during WW II. Durell was employed as an accountant supervisor at the Saint John Dry Dock, retiring in 1986. Bertha and Durell enjoyed many winter vacations in Florida as well as one to Europe with veterans of the Lake Superior Regiment. Durell loved to talk and enjoyed meeting people. Besides his wife of 63 years, Bertha, he is survived by daughters Ellen F. (George) Lauretti, Deland, Fla, Peggy L. (Ralph) Love, Willow Grove, NB, son Andrew S. Jones, Fort McMurray, AB., one brother Walter (Carol) Jones, St. Andrews, NB, sisters Louise Kelley, Calais, Me., and Eleanor (William) Taylor, Orillia, ON., grandchildren Matthew (Jen) Love, Laura (Derrick) Connors, Katrina Lauretti, Brandon Jones, Victoria Jones, and two great-grandchildren Alyssa and Julianna. He was predeceased by brothers Thomas and Charles, sisters Agnes (Hollis) Hooper, Evelyn (Frederick) Taylor, Annie (Tom) Matheson and infant Margaret Jones. Resting at Castle “Fallsview” Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave, Saint John West, (634-1701) with visitation on Wednesday from 2 – 4 & 7- 9 p.m. A Tribute to a Veteran’s Service will take place on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2011 from St. Jude’s Anglican Church at 11 a.m. Interment in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. Following the interment a reception will take place at the Fallsview Family Reception Center. Donations in memory of Durell to St. Jude’s Anglican Church Building Fund or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by his family. Online condolences may be placed at www.castlefh.com
