Obituary of Joseph "Joe" Masson
It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Joseph Owen Masson, beloved husband of Heather Ann (Evans) has gone to his final rest with the Lord on June 27th, 2012 after a courageous four-month battle with cancer. Joe was the son of the late Orry and Pauline (Burns) Masson. Beside his wife of 33 years, Joe is survived by his son Paul and daughter-in-law Mary-Ann (Praught), daughter Dawn and son Adam, all of Saint John. He also leaves behind his two precious grandchildren, Brooke & Spencer. Joe is also survived by one sister, Judy and brother-in-law, Don Weeks of Quispamsis; two nephews, Mark Weeks, his wife Jennifer, & daughter Grace, of Ontario and Scott Weeks also of Ontario and one sister-in-law, Lynn Evans of Saint John. Joe was a wonderful man and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He was an excellent father and always encouraged and supported his children in their many undertakings. He was a hands-on Dad from the start and earned himself the nickname ‘Mr Mom’. Perhaps his greatest joy in life was being a Grampy and he took advantage of every opportunity he had to spend time with his grandkids. Joe always said that being a Grampy was “the best job he ever had”. Joe spent his whole career working for NB Power in Rothesay, first as a meter reader for more than twenty years until he accepted an office position as an analyst , going on to become the Meter Services Supervisor for the Eastern Region. Joe was recently presented with a gold ring in recognition of his more than 35 years of service with NB Power. Joe was a dedicated member of St. Jude’s Anglican Church, serving for many years as a church warden and vestry member. Joe worked tirelessly tending to the maintenance of the church buildings & grounds and overseeing recent renovations at the church rectory. He spent many hours and days each winter shovelling snow to keep the stairs and walkways clear. He was also very involved in compiling the annual budget and assisting with the weekly collections for many years. Joe spent much of his free time at the church and participated in many parish events including delivering meals at the roast beef dinners and driving children from the youth group to all of their outings. The family wishes to thank the many dedicated employees at the Saint John Regional Hospital for all the great care he received during his illness, especially those in the Radiation, Oncology and Palliative Care departments. A special ‘thank you’ goes to the wonderful staff at 4BS for all the extra love, encouragement, care and attention that was shown to Joe and the whole family during his more than 3 months on the floor. The family also wishes to thank all of Joe’s friends, family and co-workers for all the support he received during his illness. Resting at Castle Funeral Home, “Fallsview Chapel”, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John West (634-1701) visitation will take place on Sunday, July 01, 2012 from 7-9 p.m. and Monday, July 02, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 03, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Jude’s Anglican Church. A reception will follow the service in the church hall. Donations in Joe’s memory to St. Jude’s Anglican Church or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family
