Obituary of John Knox
Knox, John Vernon Y. Passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 08, 2012 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on July 25, 1932 he was the son of the late Harry and Jessie (Yoston) Knox. Loving husband of the late Geraldine (Belyea) Knox. John was a graduate of Saint John High School in 1951 and did training with the RCMP from 1951-1952 then was employed by Good Year Tire from 1952-1955 and Maritime Accessories Ltd. from 1955 until 1975 where he was a Sales Representative and later, Branch Manager. He went to work for Universal Sales Ltd. From 1976 until he retired in 1993. Serving as Manager of the Power Transmission Division. John enjoyed all kinds of sports. He was a member of the Saint John Mariners Rugby Team when they won the Maritime Championship and the McCready Cup in the early 1950’s. He also played softball and hockey and obtained a black belt in Karate. He was a founding member of the original Westfield and District Recreation Association and Little League Baseball in the area, as well as coaching one of the teams. He was a member of the Boy’s Scouts Committee and a former Vice President of the River Valley Food Bank. He will be sadly missed by his two sons, J. Derek and wife, Carolyn, of Quispamsis, NB and R. Mark and friend, Mila, of Scarborough, Ontario; grandsons, Edward, Andrew, and his fiancée, Rebecca and Christopher; sister, Jessie Howe; brother, Karl Knox, and his wife, Nancy and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his brothers, Nelson and Clarence. Resting at Castle Funeral Home, “Fallsview Chapel”, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John West, (634-1701) visitation will take place on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. from the Church of the Resurrection, Grand Bay-Westfield. Interment to follow in St. Peter’s Anglican Cemetery, Woodman’s Point. A reception will be held at the church, following interment. Donations, in memory of John, may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Arthritis Society or a charity of the donor's choice.
