Obituary of Charles Briggs
The passing of Charles Ernest Briggs, 94 of Saint John, NB., occurred at the Loch Lomond Villa on January 1, 2012. Born in Ripples, NB., he was the son of the late Hazen and Lena (Colwell) Briggs. He was a Veteran of WWII and served in Canada, Britain, the Central Mediterranean Area and Northwest Europe. Charlie was decorated with the 1939-45 Star, Italy Star, France, and Germany Star, Defense Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with clasp and the War Medal 1939-45. He was also a member of RCL Branch 69. Charlie was a retired Millwright, belonging to Union Local 2262, to which he had in the past served as Recording Secretary, Business Agent, Vice President and Past President. He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Bessie (Chapman) Briggs, daughter Betty McNulty, Saint John, NB., brother Lorne (Shirley), Newcastle Creek, NB., sister Pearl Kennedy, Lakeville Corner, NB., sisters-in-law Audrey Briggs, Newcastle Creek, NB., and Florence Briggs, Greenwich, NB, granddaughters Stacey McNulty (Francois), ON., and Melissa McNulty, Texas, US., grandsons Shawn and Jason Briggs, Saint John, NB., as well as, several nieces and nephews. Charlie was predeceased by sons Gerald and Marvin and son-in-law Gordon McNulty; brothers Harold and Herbert; sisters Jennie DeMerchant and Faye Murray. Resting at Castle “Fallsview” Funeral Home 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John West (634-1701) with visiting on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Tribute to a Veteran Service will be held on Wednesday at 7 pm. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at 3 pm from Fallsview Chapel with interment in Greenwood Cemetery followed by a reception in the Fallsview Family Reception Center. Donations in Charlie’s memory can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
