Obituary of Lloyd Mawhinney
Lloyd Mawhinney passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Rocmaura Nursing Home on June 8th, 2013. He was born in Saint John, New Brunswick on November 9, 1922. He was married to the late Norma (Porter) Mawhinney. Lloyd was a commercial fisherman for over 60 years having fished lobster, salmon, herring, and ground fish. There were also frequent family outings for clam digging and picking dulse, much to the chagrin of his sons and daughters. Lloyd was a member of Bethany Independent Baptist Church. He was a member of the Fundy North Fisherman’s Association as well as the Weirman’s Association. He was also an avid Hunter and Montreal Canadians fan. In addition to his wife Norma, Lloyd was also predeceased by his brother Ervine Mawhinney. He is survived by his sons Robert Mawhinney (Debra) of Dipper Harbour, Warren Mawhinney (Sandy) of Maces Bay, Keith Mawhinney (Lisa) of Hampton, Curtis Mawhinney (Cathy) of Chance Harbour, and Lloyd Mawhinney (Bobbi) of Saint John; daughters Rosanne Curwin (Chris) of Saint John, and Elaine Small (Bradley) of Maces Bay; brother Gordon Mawhinney (Muriel) of Chance Harbour; sisters Elizabeth “Betty” MacDonald (Harry) of Chance Harbour/Kingston, Ontario, and Grace Waldron (Don) of Saint John; as well as sister in law Jeanne Mawhinney of Chance Harbour. Lloyd has 16 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Resting at Castle Funeral Home 309 Lancaster Ave, Saint John West (634-1701). Visitation will take place Monday evening 7-9 pm and Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Service will be held at Bethany Independent Baptist Church in Little Lepreau on Wednesday June 12, 2013 at 1 pm. Interment will take place in Maces Bay Cemetery. A reception will be held at the church after the interment. Donations to the Alzheimers Society or the charity of donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
