It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Elizabeth Jean Stuart, wife of the late Frank K. Stuart MD. Born 1926, in Hanna, Alberta, Betty was the daughter of the late Frank Stanley Fullerton and Laura Helen (Page) Fullerton. Elizabeth and little sister Anne moved to Saint John after the death of her mother, to live with her aunt, Lottie Fullerton, in 1937. Graduating from Saint John High School in 1943, she then entered nursing school and graduated, with distinction in 1947. After taking operating room technique training in Winnipeg, she returned to Saint John, working for a short time at the General Hospital before transferring to the DVA Hospital to work in the operating room. In 1956, she married Dr. Frank Stuart, leaving nursing shortly thereafter. After living in Quintin Heights for a few years, they moved to Buena Vista Ave., where they raised their family and lived for 37 years, until Frank Sr.’s death in 2001. Elizabeth soon moved to Low Wood in Rothesay where she lived for six years before moving to the Kingsway Nursing Home in Quispamsis, where she spent her remaining years in declining health due to the onset of Alzheimer’s disease. Elizabeth was a member of St. Mark’s United Church, the Schizophrenia Society, the Women’s Symphony Committee, and the Quintin Heights Women’s Bridge Club. Elizabeth is survived by a daughter, Mary of Ottawa, and three sons: Robert (Joanne) of Ottawa, David (Sari) of Rothesay, and Frank (Pamela) of Saint John. She is also survived by grandchildren Sarah of Ottawa, Joshua of Vancouver, and Shawn of Saint John, as well as several nieces, and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Elizabeth was predeceased by her brother Fred (Lorna) of Drumheller, Alberta; sisters Helen and Dorothy Fullerton, both of Saint John, and Anne MacKenzie (Alaster) of Vancouver, British Columbia. She was also predeceased by an infant brother, Frank.Heartfelt thanks to the staff of Kingsway Care Centre for their love and comfort provided over the years.
