Obituary of Yvonne Wilson
It with sadness that the family of Yvonne Wilson announce her passing at the Saint John Regional Hospital on September 19th, 2022. Born in Saint John, NB on June 13th, 1927, she was the daughter of Purdy and Lucy (nee Black) Cougle.
Yvonne was a calm, witty and smart woman with an excellent sense of humour. Realizing her potential at a young age, her parents supported her enrollment in university leading her to obtaining two degrees. She became a celebrated teacher and taught students in three different provinces: New Brunswick, Quebec, and British Columbia; as well as in New Zealand and Australia. Yvonne loved travelling and seeing various parts of the world, marrying in New Zealand in 1958 to William J. Wilson, and travelling around the world twice.
Yvonne was an excellent writer, a skill that she instilled into her two daughters. Yvonne kept her intelligence right to the end, making sure she was always kept up to date about politics and world news. She was an editor and author and continued editing until retiring at the age of 80, and continuing teaching and editing occasionally until the age of 92.
She is survived by her daughters Lucy Wilson and Kate Wilson (Arnet Sheppard); step-grandson Christopher; as well as many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, husband William, and brothers Richard and Stuart.
Resting at Castle Fallsview Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave, Saint John, NB (634-1701). A Celebration of Life for Yvonne will be held on Friday, September 23rd, 2022, beginning at 1:00 PM at the Castle Funeral Home Chapel, with her burial following at Greenwood Cemetery.
