Obituary of Blanche McGowan
With appreciation for a life well – lived, the family of Blanche McGowan announces her passing, which occurred peacefully at Bobby’s Hospice in Saint John, NB, Blanche (Donald) McGowan; wife of the late Victor McGowan of Grand Bay – Westfield, NB, was born in Olinville, NB, on April 8 th , 1926; she is the daughter of the late William Edson & Sadie Agnes (McCutcheon) Donald.
Blanche is survived by her daughter Nancy English (David) of Kars, NB, 2 sons Richard McGowan and his partner Laureen of Saint John, NB, Paul (Roxanne) of Grand Bay – Westfield, NB, 6 grandchildren, Jeannette Mainhout, Anthony McGowan, Karen McGowan (Jon) Matthew McGowan ( Juliette), Kali McGowan (Joe) & Jared McGowan; 7 great grandchildren Breanna, Tyler, Ashlyn, McKinley, Mitchell, Eloise, Taylor and Kera, siblings Marion Makepeace and John Donald, both of Browns Flat, NB, sisters in law Clarice Buckley of Toronto, ON, and Mary Donald of Browns Flat, NB; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Blanche was predeceased by 4 sisters, Elsie Johnson, Phyllis Copp, Jean Beckett, all of Browns Flat, NB, Alberta Lourie of Grand Bay – Westfield, NB, and one brother Charles Donald of Browns Flat, NB.
Blanche retired from Sears Canada after 17 years. She also was the owner and proprietor of The Ritz take - out, in Grand Bay, NB, commonly known as Wimpy’s . She was a longtime member of St. Augustine’s and St. Matthews Churches in Grand Bay, - Westfield, NB & a dedicated member of the CWL of St. Augustine’s Church. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxillary of the Volunteer Fire Dept. of Grand Bay – Martinon and Branch #22 of the Royal Canadian Legion in Grand Bay – Westfield, NB. Blanche enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren with many pleasant times at family gatherings. She also loved music and dancing. However, first and foremost she enjoyed playing cards of any kind but especially 45’s. She enjoyed her outings to community card parties with special friends Trueman and Myrtle Hoyt, Annie Lyons and Nettie Jones as well as family card games with her siblings and with her children and friends.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Humpjreys' Funeral Home (20 Marks St., St. Stephen NB) (506) 466-3110. A mass of christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 6 th , 2022 at 11:45 am at St. Matthews Church in Grand Bay – Westfeild, NB. Rev. Fr. David Martin as celebrant. A reception will immediately follow in the church hall. The family will receive friends during a time of visitation on Sunday, December 4 th, 2022 only from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm & 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Castle Fallsview Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue, West Saint John, NB (1 – 506 – 634 – 1701)
