Obituary of Harry Wesley Archibald Adams
It is with great sadness that the family of Harry Wesley Archibald Adams announce his passing on April 12, 2023, at Kennebec Manor with his family by his side. Born in Saint John, NB, on December 28, 1927, he was a son of George and Gladys (nee Best) Adams. Predeceased in death by his wife of 58 years, Viola (nee Richard) Adams and son Paul Adams.
Harry attended Saint John Vocational School but left in 1944 to find work. Securing a position at T.S. Simms, from 1944-1953, he made corn brooms. He was the only broom maker to specialize in curling brooms earning him one of the better wages of $60-$65 per week. He joined the T.S. Simms softball team as a catcher and won the league 3 years in a row.
In 1953 Harry joined the Canadian Coast Guard sailing the Bay of Fundy. In 1958 he received his 4th Marine Engineer’s license and transferred to CCG Walter E. Foster until his resignation in 1966. In March 1966 he received his 3rd class Stationary License which landed him the opportunity to work at the Irving Pulp Mill for six months. Following that, he was employed with the Provincial Hospital Powerhouse, and Main Hospital Building, until his retirement in March 1992.
Harry was a “Jack of all Trades” and always came to the rescue for family and friends. You would continually find Harry working in his carpentry workshop and donating many of his crafts to local charity. He was an active parishioner of the Our Lady of the Assumption Parish dedicating his time as a Eucharistic Minister, preparing the altar and other committees. He was an Honorary Life member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the 4th Degree Assembly.
An avid bowler, Harry organized a Senior’s League at the Saint John Bowlarama.
He will always be remembered for his playful sense of humor.
Harry is survived by his children: Donald (Lynn) Adams, Mary (Mario) Ermers, Susan (Danny) Thompson, Gerald Adams, and Peter Adams (Heather Pratt); 9 grandchildren: Tony (Tasha Tetanish), Mark, John, Justin, Ethan and Lauren Adams, Ryan (Madison) Ermers, and Sarah (Luke Pettinger) and Adam (Angelina) Thompson; 5 great-grandchildren: Allister and Elliott Adams, Grace and Claire Pettinger, and John Thompson; brothers Leslie (Helen), Nelson (Nancy), and Frank Adams; special friend of 13 years Linda Belyea; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Besides his wife, parents and son, Harry was predeceased by his daughter-in-law Susana Cabral-Adams; brothers: Gordon, Murray, George, Ronald, and Douglas Adams; and sisters: Gladys Knox, Mary Sistilli, Madeline Bordage, Elsie Kenny, and Paulette Adams.

Resting at Castle Funeral Home (506) 634-1701 (309 Lancaster Ave., Saint John, NB), visitation for Harry will be on Sunday, April 16, 2023, from 2:00 – 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, April 17, 2023, at the Our Lady of the Assumption Church (360 Dufferin Row, Saint John) for 12:00 PM. Interment will directly follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations in Harry’s memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, The War Amps-New Brunswick, or the charity of your choice.
