Obituary of Marlene Patricia Brown

The daughters of Marlene Brown (nee McKim) are very saddened to announce her passing on August 19, 2023. Mom was born February 20, 1939 to the late Murray Ivason McKim and Marjorie Eugene McKim (Davis). She was predeceased by our dad, William (Billy) Brown, her sister Joan Ferguson and brother, Russell McKim.

Mom is survived by three daughters, Debbie Mazerolle (Ron); Joanne Brown (Jim) and Mary Daigle (Eric). She also leaves behind grandchildren Jeff Mazerolle, Leah Mazerolle, Mary Newman, Robyn MacGowan, Michelle Stewart, Brad Daigle and Justin Daigle. She is also survived by several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a very special uncle, Warren McKim who she loved dearly. We would be remiss if we didn’t include her number one feline son, Ben, aka Benny. He kept mom company and were joined at the hip.

Mom spent her early years growing up in Fairville and Rockwood Court and attended Saint John Vocational School.

Although mom had many jobs over the years her favourite was working at the Salvation Army Thrift Store. After retirement, she continued to volunteer there. Maybe it was because it was like going to a huge yard sale every day, which was her passion, along with playing bingo. Mom could always be found at the kitchen table on Friday night with glasses on the end of her nose, pen in hand, circling addresses of the yard sales she would go to on Saturday morning. On yard sale days, stop signs and yellow lights were optional.

Mom loved to bake, quilt, sew, crochet and play bingo until she suffered a debilitating stroke. Although her life became a struggle, she was able to stay in her own home with the help of some very special home care workers, namely Alice, Farah, Karen and Susan. For this we are very grateful.

Per mom’s wishes, there will be graveside prayers at Greenwood Cemetery, Sand Cove Road, on Friday, August 25^th at 11:00am. Following interment, a celebration of life will be held at Ron and Debbie’s, 2334 Westfield Road.
