Nan OB. My first friend. We sure had some great times, with our sing alongs on the way to teacher Sharon’s, drives to and from school as a kid, and countless family feasts. You played a major roll in my life but especially when I was a young kid, and mom and dad were working so you were tasked with driving me around and watching me after school. Some of my fondest and earliest memory’s are with you, on those drives. I’ll always cherish the time we spent together. Rest easy nan, love you.

Joanie, Pat, Mike, Joe, spouses and families. As we share your loss, I am reminded of a wonderful aunt who embodied all things good and wholesome in life. I believe she inherited the ability to “chat to anyone about anything” trait and sense of humour from her mom and her profound wisdom and inner gentleness from her dad. I am always mindful of the fact that Joan in so many ways was more like twin than sister of my beloved mom Gert. Both were devoted spouses, teacher-like mothers, shoppers, travellers and above all else, proud members of a poor but proud Irish/Catholic family. Joan combined all these admirable traits, with a witty and humourous side that we all loved. Her parents were never far from memory,as she would recount endless stories of her time at home with her family and make quick use of the thousand sayings of her mom and dad. I know this as I heard them all as well….yes from own mom. Joan was always a bit of a “worry wort”, particularly regarding all things health and safety-related. But, considering her many years she’d spent assisting physicians and surgeons in our local operating rooms, she no doubt had seen much more than she’d ever wish to share with her friends and family. As I recently noted to cousin Joanie……I’d guess that “mom” found deep comfort in her final days, knowing that she’d soon be reunited with her beloved spouse Fred in that Eden designed for people like them. Love and thoughts, Peter and Joanne

Joanie, Pat, Mike, Joe, and your respective families… Marijke too. I am so very sorry for your loss. Aunt Joan was a gem.. a one-of-a-kind, class act. When she spoke to you… it was like you were the only person in the world that mattered at that moment. Her memory was unfaltering and she would ask you about everything and anything that meant something to you - such a comforting soul. And… you never left a conversation with Aunt Joan without a hearty laugh. She was awesome. She will be missed by many - myself included. May she rest in peace.

Goodbye my oldest pal and confidante....thanks for all the great lessons, and your love and understanding, your nurturing and your mentoring, your advice and your help and for being my own personal nurse .Thanks for the early training in hygene and food handling...it served me well in my career .We had great times together from some of my earliest memories , at MRAs and the old Sears Cafe, to watching CHSJ TV magazine in the early 70s and then the midday matinee while we napped on the couch before all the siblings got home from school . You were my greatest advocate and defended me fiercely .You pounded the studies into my head before my tests and exams with your unbelievable patience . You taught me tricks to remember things , you taught me to spin a story to make the mundane a humorous situation and taught me how to laugh at myself . Later you were there to support me with my young family .We had many great feasts together, and you truely appreciated good food .Recwntly we discovered that we shared one of our mutual fondest memories , which was of you and I getting up early to put together a huge Thanksgiving feast at the cottage you rented in Belmont ...you loved that .Also every year you wanted to get the big July 1st gathering organized , and you started planning that in April .Your family Christmas parties were a highlight of the year as well. Thanks Mom for the happiest childhood a person could want .I felt loved and although we weren't a family who said the words I love you often enough , there was never a question that the love was reciprocal . You did a great job with all of us mom and we love you and not a day will go by that we don't miss you . Your Little Dammer
