Obituary of John Henry Quigg
It is with broken hearts the family of John Henry Quigg wish to announce his passing on Thursday November 16, 2023. He was born on October 24, 1929, in Saint John, and was raised in Welsford, N.B. John was the son of the late Harry William and Sarah Jane (Butler) Quigg.
John was a beloved father to Elizabeth Lewis, Brian (Wendy), Colleen, Kevin (Sandra), and Gary (Tracy). Poppy will be missed by his loving grandchildren Kyle, Gareth, Laura, Jeffrey, Casey, Brenden, Mitchell, Riley, and Great grandchildren Rosa and Finn. He is also survived by his sisters, Eileen Heyer, Florida, Ann Smith, Ontario, brother; Arthur (Winona) Quigg, sister -in- law; Marion (Cyril) Oram, many nieces and nephews.
John is predeceased by his spouse; Mary Gertrude (Quilty), son -in- law; Mark Lewis, and brothers; Wally and Phil.
John began his career in 1948 at the age of 19 with the Canadian Pacific Railway, serving 42 years until his retirement in 1990. He enjoyed coaching with Lancaster Minor Hockey, fishing, hunting, and was a lifelong member of the Welsford Golf Club and the Carleton Curling Club where he served on many committees and became president in 1997.
John took pride in attending his grandchildren’s sporting and musical events. A life long, devoted fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays.
Resting at Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, N.B. (506 634 1701). A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 19, 2023, from 2:00 to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Assumption Church, where John was a devoted a parishoner, on Monday, November 20, 2023, at 12:00 PM. Interment will take place in Holy Cross cemetery. A reception will be held at the Carleton Curling Club. Donations in John’s memory may be made to the Kennebec Manor Nursing home or the Carleton Curling Club or the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated by the family. Dad moved into the Kennebec Manor on October 29, 2020, and we could not have been more thrilled with the love, support and care that was provided to Dad. Our family would like to thank the dedicated, caring, and compassionate nursing team and all the staff of Kennebec Manor who provided a safe and warm environment for him.
