Obituary of David Matthew Shaw
It is with broken hearts that the family of David Matthew Shaw announce his unexpected passing on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at the age of 51.
David was born on November 3, 1972, in Fredericton, NB, to John and Jean (nee Myshrall) Shaw. He lived in Fredericton for a few years until his family moved to Saint John, where he spent his youth. As a young adult, David moved to NS and worked at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for several years. Over the following two decades, he worked on construction sites in Alberta and Nova Scotia. This past summer, David moved to Fredericton in order to care for his parents.
David was a man of faith. His trust in God carried him throughout his life, helping him through the ups and downs. It also led him to missionary work in Honduras and the Philippines as well as volunteering at churches in NS. David spent so much of his time studying the Bible and sharing God’s Love and Word with friends and family.
David loved the outdoors and felt most at home when surrounded by nature. He was an avid fisherman who took every opportunity to get out on the water. David’s favourite place to be was the family cottage on Grand Lake. He helped his father over many years with construction, maintenance, landscaping and more.
David was a loving, caring and loyal son, brother, uncle, and friend; he was truly loved and will be missed deeply by many. We will never see a smile as brilliant as our Dave’s…never hear a laugh so joy-filled. And no one will be more eager to help out than him. For his friends and family and to strangers alike, he was always available and quick to do anything he could for others.
David is survived by his parents John and Jean Shaw of Fredericton, NB; brother, Graham (Susannah) Shaw of Toronto, ON; sister, Heather Shaw of Oakville, ON; nephews, Ethan and Elliott Shaw and Gianluca Giovannini; niece, Anna Giovannini; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Castle “Fallsview” Funeral Home (506) 634-1701 309 Lancaster Ave., Saint John NB. Visitation for David will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2023, from 2:00 – 6:00 PM with a time of remembrance beginning at 4:00 PM. Following the words of remembrance extended family and friends will be invited to share their stories and memories of David
