Obituary of Yvon Joseph Vautour

It is with broken hearts the family of Yvon Joseph Vautour wish to announce his passing on Wednesday June 12, 2024, at the Saint John Regional Hospital with his family by his side. Born in Saint Charles, N.B. in 1946, Yvon was a son of the late Alyre and Irma (Daigle) Vautour, and beloved husband of the late Joyce Mary (Robichaud) Vautour (November 2017) for 50 years.

Yvon is survived by his three children: Susan (Don) Dignam of Saint John,  Giselle Powell, of Rothesay and Donald (Sasha McKenzie) Vautour of Saint John. Five grandchildren; Mathew, Jessica, and Ashley Dignam, Dylan and Gabe Powell, brothers and sisters; Rene Vautour, of Ontario,Edith Vadnier, of Quebec, Camille Vautour, of Moncton, Germaine Levesque, of Saint John, Louise Vautour, of Richibucto, Marguerite Arsenault, of Saint Charles, and Maria LeGoff, of Richibucto. His life was blessed to have a sizeable amount of extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful friends, who will forever remember him. Yvon had a contagious smile and a kindness to him, which made lasting impressions on those he met, even if it’s been a short while. Yvon is predeceased by his Parents, Alyre and Irma (Daigle) Vautour, brothers, Joseph Vautour, Leo Paul Vautour, Adolphe Vautour, Ovila Vautour, Arcade Vautour, Eric Vautour, sisters; Lorraine Ouelette, Imelda Ouelette.

When Yvon first moved to Saint John, his first job was welding school buses, where he fell in love with the trade. He joined The Boilermaker Union, Local #73 in 1971, and was a proud  working member of the Union, for over 35 years. His trade took him to many places far and near and he finished out his career working in Boston, Massachusetts in 2006. Yvon was a life time member of the Knights of Columbus #6670 . As a member of the Knights he participated in countless events and served his community through volunteerism . He particularly enjoyed helping to cook for the knights monthly breakfast’s.  He was an avid bowler in the KofC bowling. He liked to dance and frequently attended the 30 up club dances over the years with his wife. Yvon was a huge fan of Country music. We really hope the radio connection to country 94 is good in heaven. He adored hunting with his brothers and friends and loved his TNT Campground days where he golfed, played washers and took in part in the various events with his wife and beloved dog Quincy. During his life time he created many lasting memories and friendships.

The care and support that Yvon has received over the years from the medical community as been impeccable . Our family cannot Thank the various units/departments and their teams enough. The Heart unit, Dr. Douglas & Lisa Dupuis, The Dialysis unit, Dr. Sohi & his colleagues and their heroic team, who became a huge part of Yvon's weekly routine, The Oncology/Chemotherapy Department,  Dr. Burnell, Dr. MD Mohiudinn  & colleagues and their wonderful team, where he frequented daily for months receiving treatment daily and weekly,  The Chemo Room and their incredible team that seen him monthly, The Emergency Department, where he became a frequent flyer. The Floor units where he spent time on, the nursing teams were always so kind and good to him and lastly The  Palliative Care Unit, Dr. Mackin and his team, Thank you for going above and beyond to not only to care for our Dad and keep him comfortable, you looked after our needs as well.

He loved spending time with his family, you could always find him taking us camping, fishing and chauffeuring us all over the city. He loved to cook and would make special dishes for his friends and family. Once his grand children came into his life he was always there by their sides playing an intricate part as they grew. He was a great grandfather and friend. We will miss the weekly Sunday BBQ’s at Papa’s house.

The arrangements are under the care and direction of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, N.B. (506 634 1701). A visitation will take place at Castle Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, from 2:00pm to 8:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday June 20, 2024, at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church at 11:00am. A reception will be held at Castle Funeral Home following the Mass. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date.
