Obituary of Jim Fox
It is with Heavy Hearts that the family of James H (Jim) Fox announce his passing on July 7, 2024. Jim was the first child of James A. and Mildred (Perry) Fox of Fairville, N.B., Born on January 24, 1933.
Predeceased by his parents, and his sister, Shirley Miller also Jim was very sad when his pal and golf partner Mary Connell passed last year.
Jim is survived by his only son, Robert Fox and his wife Lou- Anne of Richmond Hill Ontario. Also surviving are Jim’s sister Carol Fox of Saint John, n.b. and brothers, David Fox and his wife Sybil of French Village, N.B., and brother, Peter Fox and his companion Lee MacLean.
Beside his biological family, Jim is survived by the family of his long-time companion, Shirley Richards. Shirley’s sons and daughters, along with their children, accepted Jim as one of their own and Jim loved them all very much.
Jim lived a long, full life. He rode the rails to B.C. to pick apples in the Okanogan Valley B.C. when he was only 16 years old. Jim studied Morse Code and worked as a Telegrapher for the CPR in Brownville Junction Maine, population 1, Just Jim.
Jim joined the Royal Canadian Navy when he was 20 years old and served proudly until he left the navy in 1958 with the rank of Leading Seaman Radioman. Jim was also very proud to have been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 61 years.
After leaving the navy Jim sailed with the Canadian Coast Guard on the “Bouy Boats” out of Saint John. In the early 1970’s Jim studied Heavy Equipment Repair at Saint John Tech, graduating at the top of his class. Jim worked as a heavy-duty mechanic for Galbraith Construction, before moving on to Brun Term Limited at the Port of Saint John, finally Jim went to work for the city of Saint John, where he was a top Mechanic for 25 years.
After his retirement, Jim took up golf and had a wonderful time firing golf balls into the woods. Jim also enjoyed playing cards, darts and pool at the #69 Lancaster Legion. Jimmy enjoyed flying to Toronto to spend time with Bob and Lou. He was in very good health until his final day when he suffered a massive stroke. Fair winds and following seas Jim, hope to see you on the other side.
The arrangements are under the care and direction of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, N.B. (506 634 1701). As per Jim’s wishes cremation has taken place. There will be no visiting or funeral service at this time. Interment of Jim’s ashes will be held at a later date.
