Obituary of Fredricka Mildred Elizabeth Arnold
It is with profound sadness that we, the family of Fredricka Mildred Elizabeth Arnold, announce that after a long and happy life, our Mom has passed away at the age of 95 at the Saint John Regional Hospital
Freda, as she was known by many, was born January 13, 1929 to the late Alexander and Mildred (Everest) Curtis.
Raised in Toronto by a single mother who worked night shifts, Freda was instilled with a strong work ethic and an independent spirit. In her early twenties she worked as a bank teller before settling down to raise her family whom she cherished.
The loss of her husband of 62 years, William Arnold (Bill), and her nine- month-old sister Delores Curtis, made Freda keenly aware of appreciating life in the moment.
It is not surprising that Freda’s greatest passion in life has always been family and friends. Her love of playing cards, bowling, gardening, exercising at Curves, travelling with friends and family, knitting baby bonnets for preemies at the local hospital, all grew from her love of the people with whom she shared these activities.
An integral part of Freda’s family were her pets. In particular, she loved her pet rat, Blacky, and her two wonderful cats named Cindi and Mitzi who lived long, healthy lives under her care.
Freda will be dearly missed by her children: Linda Gail D’Arcy (Peter) of Montreal, Alan Curtis Arnold (Glenda) of Saint John, and Christopher Travers Arnold (Lori) of Saint John; by her grandchildren: Monique, Emerson, and Ashton; by her like-a-daughter friend, Catherine LeBouthillier; and by her many friends.
While she will be missed, she will never be forgotten. Her love of life will be with us forever, or perhaps as our father would say, Forever and a Day!
We are proud of our mother; we love our mother; and we know she will continue to be our guiding light.
Please join us in celebrating our Mom, Freda Arnold, at Castle Fallsview Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave., Saint John, NB E2M 2L3 (506.) 634-1701. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, July 24 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM and Thursday July 25 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 Noon. A Memorial Service will be held from Castle Fallsview Chapel on Thursday, July 25th 12:30 PM, with a reception to follow. A Private Family interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery following the reception.
Donations in Freda’s memory may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice, or to The Heart and Stroke Foundation.
