Obituary of Donald Edward Slipp
Donald Edward Slipp passed suddenly at the Saint John Regional Hospital and went to be with our Lord and Saviour on Monday, August 12, 2024. Donald was born on February 20, 1940, in Amherst, Nova Scotia. He was later adopted by the late Clarence and Flora (Ryder) Slipp from Hampstead, NB. He lived for the first few years after his adoption on their farm in Hampstead before the family decided to move to Saint John, NB in 1946. He always loved returning to Hampstead to visit family and friends and the old farm.
Donald will be dearly missed by his devoted and loving wife of 54 years, Linda (Reicker) Slipp, daughters; Donna Hall and her husband Jayme Hall and Lori Slipp and her partner Trevor McKeown, grandchildren; Simon Hall, Thomas (Jadah) Hall, Isaiah Hall, Joseph Hall, Aidan and Lexi McKeown, several nieces and nephews, and four grand dogs.
In addition to his parents, Donald was predeceased by his sister Linda Wood.
Donald was a hard working and kind man. He enjoyed going for drives, picnics, and attending community suppers. He loved dropping in to visit family and friends; he always remembered people and how they were connected to one another. He really enjoyed all his grandchildren and loved spending time with them.
In his younger years Donald loved going camping, ski-dooing and 4 wheeling with Linda and their friends. He took great pride in his vehicles and toys; always making sure they were in top condition. Donald liked listening to country music. He and Linda enjoyed attending small country and music festivals and tuning into the Country Jamboree on Sunday nights. He loved dogs, cookies, drinking coca cola and had an immense collection of flashlights, knives and hats.
Donald spent most of his career at CP Rail where he retired in 1992. He also worked as a Longshoreman, and at CL Francis and Galbraith Construction
In his retirement most weekday mornings you could find him up early and at Starkey's Garage. He would help with odd jobs and catch up with everyone in the community. In more recent years as he got less mobile, he enjoyed sitting in his chair and looking out the front window observing the wildlife in the yard and the people passing by.
Arrangements are under the care of Castle Fallsview Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave, Saint John, NB E2M 2L3, 506-634-1701. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at Grand Bay Baptist Church from 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM. A Memorial Service will take place on Friday, August 16, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Grand Bay Baptist. A reception will follow, with interment at Central Hampstead Cemetery. Donations in Donald’s memory can be made to Camp Tulakadik, Outflow Ministry, Grand Bay Baptist Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
