Obituary of Marlene Jane Campbell
It is with great sadness the family of Marlene Jane Campbell, wife of Earl Campbell, announces her passing. Marlene lived a long and full life and passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on August 16, 2024, with her family by her side.
Marlene was born on June 30, 1933, the daughter of Hubert and Margaret Nelson. She grew up and lived in Fredericton, NB until she married her first husband D. Sidney Hyslop in 1954. They had three children and lived in various communities in the Maritimes supporting his career moves. Marlene was primarily a stay at home mother taking good care of her family. She was an active supporter of her children’s extra- curricular activities and events. She was an avid curler, active in her church and volunteered for many community causes. She enjoyed family time for several summers at the cottage in Caribou, NS, some winters in Florida with Sid, trips to visit her family, and her monthly bridge club with her friends. The births of her grandchildren and times spent with them were cherished. She would help out when needed and loved them all dearly. Great grandchildren were extra special gifts.
In her 80th year, she married Earl Campbell. They have been privileged to have 11 years together and have had comfort in each other’s company. Seadog games, Imperial Theatre shows, some lovely trips, a good game of cribbage, Blue Jay games and visits with family and friends made for a lovely path to the end of her life.
She will be dearly missed by us all.
Marlene is survived by her loving husband Earl Campbell, son Peter Hyslop (Alice), daughters Margaret Hammond (Foster), Mary Beth Hyslop (Earl Robinson). Her grandchildren; Michael Meahan (Amy), Justin Hyslop (Laura Somerville), Hayley Hyslop (Rory Fuhrer), Barbara Timmins (Colin Richard), Dianne Timmins (Ryan Baker). Her great grandchildren; Micky, Piper, Elliott, Cooper, Sawyer, Sloane and Eli. Sister Berta Meadows (Jim Wright), Sister in law, Georgie Hyslop and several nieces and nephews.
Marlene was predeceased by her parents, her first husband of 40 years, Sidney Hyslop, brother in law, Chester Hyslop, sisters in law Margaret MacLeod and Eunice Merrithew, brothers in law, Arnold MacLeod and Arthur Merrithew, niece Patricia Lister and nephew Brock Meadows.
Marlene’s family would like to express sincere thanks to her doctor of many years, Dr. George Thornhill for his kindness and exemplary care, to Earl’s family who have helped in so many ways, and to her caregivers for their support and care. Also, thank you to Doctors and staff of 5CN and to Dr. Julia Wildish of Palliative Care for their care and compassion in her final days.
In honoring Marlene’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
Memorials may be made to charities of the donor’s choice.
