Obituary of Gilbert 'Betty' Marie Young
Gilbert ‘Betty’ Marie (Doucet) Young passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at the Saint John Regional Hospital with family by her side. Betty was born on October 27, 1925 in Inkerman, NB to the late Joseph and Cecilia (Nardini) Doucet.
Betty will be dearly missed by her children, Robert (Pat Neill), Johana Ennis (Shaun) of Calgary, Loretta Young of Prince Edward Island, Anne Marie, Paul of Calgary, David (Diane), Michael (Angela) of Lethbridge, Charles and Paulette Moore (Barry). Betty raised her grandson Richard Young (Leanne) as a son, she is also survived by grandchildren; Sarah Young, Kristine Ennis, Keith Ennis, Dustin Young, Danielle Young, Erica Young, Nicole Young, Nicolas Moore and Russell Moore, great grandchildren; Logan, Audrey, Brynn, Leo, Madison, Kaitlyn, Dorian, and Isaiah, siblings; Angela Duggan and Theresa Deering and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by her first husband Willard Young and second husband Vincent Ferguson, brothers; Emard Doucette and his wife Valerie, Regis Doucet and his wife Moonyeen, and Father Joseph Doucet SCIS, sister Anne Watkins and her husband Jim, and brothers in law; Walter Duggan, and Greg Deering.
Betty worked at the Westside K-Mart for over 25 years. She was an avid knitter, and enjoyed clogging, playing Skip - BO and having a good glass of red wine. “That’s how you play the game” Betty would proudly say whilst throwing up her hands after winning a game of Skip-BO. Betty loved music and watched the Hit Parade every Friday night at 9:30; Please Release Me, Let Me Go was her favourite song. She enjoyed many summers at her cottage in Cap Lumiére, NB with her family.
Resting at Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave, Saint John, NB E2M 2L3 506-634-1701. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday at Our Lady of Assumption Parish at 12:00 Noon. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery with a reception at the Assumption Centre. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation, NB Kidney Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice.
