Obituary of Silas Bartholemew Rogers
Silas "Sass" Bartholemew Rogers, 130 Lingley Lane, Saint John, died unexpectedly in Vancouver on Friday, February 26th, 2010. Silas was born on March 22nd, 1989. His immediate family, consisting of his father David, brother Nathan, sister Julia, and confidant Kelly McQuade are devastated by the passing of Silas. His mother, Mary Ann Mann, is equally distraught.
Silas was a multifaceted individual. His accomplishments were many. He excelled athletically in baseball, where he won multiple M.V.P.s in the North Shore Minor Baseball League. He captained the Saint John baseball team, was a member of the 2007 Atlantic Midget AA champions, and spent several summers working at the Memorial Field Batting Cages. In basketball, Silas won multiple M.V.P. awards at the Dave Kean Memorial Tournament. He was also a member of the Golden Gloves Boxing Club. Silas was club champion at Gowan Brae Golf and Country Club. He was a member of the powerhouse Lancaster Atom A team that won numerous tournaments in 1999. Silas also had an avid interest in skiing, running, and track and field.
Silas' accolades were not only in the athletic field but in the performing arts as well. He was involved in theatre arts, the Rotary Boys Choir, as a Royal Conservatory-level pianist, and as an altar boy at Saint Rose Parish. Silas was fluently bilingual, having attended Le center scolaire Samuel-de-Champlain. He graduated from Saint John High School, and was a third-year student at the University of British Columbia majoring in economics. Silas is also remembered for his stand-up comedy - having performed at his high school and university.
One of Silas' greatest attributes was his ability to light up any room he walked into. He always knew how to make people laugh. His father describes Silas as "literally the personification of life." Silas was predeceased by his sister, Mary Alanna; grandparents, Eldon and Edna; uncles Eldie and Alan (Tim), and aunts Linda and Julia. He is survived by his great aunt, Evelyn Speight, several aunts, uncles, and cousins. The Collins, Kelly, and Robichaud families played major roles in Silas' life.
