Obituary of Violet Letitia Matheson
Violet Letitia Matheson (Evans) passed away peacefully on Oct. 27th, 2019 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. She was the wife of the late, Gordon A. Matheson. Born August 12th, 1925 in Saint John, NB, to the late Margaret (Peacock) and George Henry Evans. Violet is survived by two daughters; Judith (Stanley) Irvine, and Janet Matheson, both of Saint John, NB; eight grand-children, 11 great grand-children, and several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by two sons; Wayne and Grant; one brother; Robert (Bob) Evans; four sisters; Constance Cromwell, Florence Cox, Margaret Souther, and Doris Cobham. Violet was a loving mother and grandmother and was very active in her community. She was the former President of the Senior Citizens Centre at the City Market Building; First Vice President, as well as Sergeant at Arms of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary Branch No. 69; President of the Denis Morris Seniors, Treasurer of the Milford Merry Makers, and a Member of the Senior Advisory Committee during Shirley McAlary’s term as Mayor of Saint John. Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John, NB E2M2L3 506-634-1701. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 29th from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. A Funeral Service will be at Castle Funeral Home, Fallsview Chapel on Wednesday, Oct. 30th, at 11 AM. Interment will take place at Cedar Hill Ext. Thursday, Oct. 31st at 2 PM. Donations in Violet’s memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of the charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences can be made at www.castlefh.com.
