Obituary of Donald Porter
It’s with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Porter passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at the Saint John Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Donald Robert Porter was born in Saint John, N.B., on August 13, 1938 to Dr. Donald F.W. Porter and Ruth Sarah (Babb) Porter. He is survived by his wife Elisabeth (Thomson), his son Jeffrey Porter, Singapore, daughter Linda Lamos (Dan), their mother Jean Mowatt, and brother Christie (Jody) Porter, California, his grandchildren, John, Jeremy (Erin), Sarah Lamos, Esther Porter, sister in law, Joyce Allen (David), Mahone Bay, N.S. and niece Susan Porter. Don is predeceased by his parents and his sister, Alice Porter. His commitment to healthcare began in Campbellton, N.B. working with his father’s consulting firm. As a hospital administrator he served hospital’s in Amherst, N.S., Sussex, and Saint John, N.B. His favorite hobbies were salmon fishing near his cottage at Hart’s Pool near Silverwood N.B., canoeing, cross country skiing, time spent with his gun club at the firing range, his friends at the Outdoor Enthusiasts Club, and as helmsman for the “Breasts Ahoy” Dragon Boat Team. Don encouraged many by lovingly investing himself in mental health and the fight against cancer. Castle Funeral Home are entrusted with the arrangements. Resting at the Church of Saint John the Baptist (Mission Church) & St. Clement the Anglican Parish of Millidgeville, 815 Millidge Ave. Saint John, N.B. with visitation on Saturday evening from 7pm to 9pm , and Sunday 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9pm. A funeral service will be held on Monday February 1, 2016 at 11:00am at St. John the Baptist (Mission Church) & St. Clement the Anglican parish of Millidgeville. A reception will be held in the church hall following the service. A private family burial will take place in the spring. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Diabetes Association, the Anglican Parish of Millidgeville church, or the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. The family would like to Thank the ER and SICU unit, Dr. Mowatt, and his team, Don’s nurses Kate and Heather, and family and friends.
