Our family moved to a home on Duke Street in the City of Lancaster in 1964, and quickly came to know our next door neighbour, Lois Lutton. She was very proud of her family home and the large property it was situated on, with the majestic willows that her grandfather had planted as property markers. The Wayside Shop was also on her land near the sidewalk and was a favourite stop for young students in need of candy on their way to school. Over the years we were lucky enough to see many bird species in her wooded backyard and border between our properties: hawks, shrikes, wrens, warblers, thrashers and more.
But we most remember Lois for her extensive knowledge of the history of her city, and wonder if she ever wrote a journal. Otherwise her detailed memories of our common past are lost, and that window on another world is closed.
Lois was a courageous woman who lived alone and looked after her homestead, decade after decade, until poor eyesight led her to the Turnbull Home ( a wonderful, spotless place with caring staff where my aunt Frances spent her last years ).
The Pottle "kids" send condolences to her cousins, and especially to our new neighbour Dave Parks and family.
We will keep Lois in our hearts for a long time to come.

I would like to send my sincere condolences to Lois' family.
I have know Lois for more than 50 years as I grew up just 2 blocks from her house on Duke Street West, and when I joined IODE (Imperial Order of Daughters of the Empire), a women's charitable donation, Lois was also a member and I worked closely with her over the years. She was very a very devoted member. Many years ago, (the 80's) she would host our annual large fundraiser, which was a yard sale at her home.
Lois was a wonderful lady, always a joy to be around.

Deepest sympathy to Lois' family.
I worked at City Hall for many years with Lois. She was always a friendly and dedicated employee.
I remember that she loved history and loved to chat.
Rest in peace Lois.

I am so sorry to hear about Lois. …she was a sweet lady. Her buddy at Turnbull, Josephine (Jo) McHarg, will certainly miss her. Sincerest condolences from us both.

I met Lois many years ago when I owned a book store in Lancaster Mall. Lois would often frequent my store to purchase her weekly magazines on the Royal Family. I always found her very pleasant and knowledgeable during our chats, especially when it revolved around the Royals. By the sounds of things she lived a very full life on her own terms. May she rest in peace.
