Obituary of Gordana Antonietta Govic
I, Alex Sangowicz, am writing this obituary for Gordana Govic with whom, I have spent the last 47 years with.
Gordana, who is affectionally known as Gigi, was born Sept.5,1955 in Caserta, Italy. In 1958, at three years old, the family immigrated to Canada where they settled in Saint John, New Brunswick. At 22 years of age, in 1977, Gigi decided to seek out new frontiers and moved to Montreal, QC. That's where I met the beautiful person she was and later would become my beloved companion.
Her adventurous spirit shined so bright, that we then became world traveling vagabonds. Our magnificent, awe-inspiring, breathtaking, astounding, spectacular and sometimes scary, and often times tiring adventures, took us to Croatia (her Father's birthplace), Germany, Spain, France, then Central America, to Nicaragua, Costa Rica and El Salvador.
Last November we decided to winter vacation in Mexico.
That's where our lives crumbled, fell apart and disintegrated.
It is with a shattered heart and a tormented soul that I write the following words. My Jewel and BFF, my lover and soulmate, my rock and the wind beneath my wings has left us to travel to another unknown dimension. After being diagnosed with extensive small cell cancer while in Mexico, on Feb.6th, we immediately flew back to Canada to insure she would get proper medical attention. The doctors here confirmed the diagnosis. We spent the little time she had left closely together, in perfect harmony. I held her in my arms until her very last breath which took place Monday, March 18,2024 at 8:00pm, VERY SOULFULLY.
I will now have only the Very Best Memories of our many joyful moments spent together for 47 years!
I owe an immense debt of gratitude to Gary Davidson and members of his family, as well as Elisa Gamble who unfailingly provided hands-on, as well as emotional and moral support throughout this painful ordeal.
In addition, very special kudos to the New Brunswick Extra-Mural Program support team who also provided medical help with outstanding professional efficiency and warm compassion.
Amen
